I wanted to be Amy Grant when I grew up.
I’ll never forget when my mom got me my first “cassette tape”. It was bought at a local music store, perhaps a Christian bookstore? I can’t remember. But what I can remember were the dark, oak shelves of 1980’s store and the moment I saw my first Amy Grant Cassette tape sitting there. It was likely early 80’s, maybe 1982 or 1983? When I saw the name “Amy” on the cover I freaked. I got even more excited when I realized she was good and her songs were catchy. I can recall bring the tape home and spending hours walking around with my silver hand held cassette player, pushing rewind on the big clunky buttons as often as I could.

My favorite songs were “My Father’s Eyes”, “Age to Age” and “El Shaddai”. Like the rest of the world who discovered Amy Grant, I was sweep away with her simple, throaty sound and lyrics that made your arms spike with goose bumps.
Even back then, I felt Jesus, so very strongly.
