I was in college during my Nannie’s final years. She was living alone; my Gramps had died a few years before that, and I would try to visit her as much as possible. I would rent movies I thought she would like and I would drive her in my little white Acura Integra to her hair dresser to get her hair done. She did have a caretaker that lived in the guest suite connected to the garage, and then eventually my sister and her family moved in with her.
At one point, in between the caretaker and my sister, I had considered leaving college and moving in with Nannie. I didn’t do it; in my fast tracked way of thinking, taking time off school would throw me off for the rest of my life.
I regret that. I always have.
