Podcast Update
As I mentioned in this post, I’ve had some loose ends to tie up from my previous life. Finishing my divorce was the first step in my legal journey and this month has been time for me to start the short wrap up for the remainder of Evy’s Tree legalities. Additionally, I’ve had a little side gig brewing for a while now and this past week it got kicked into overdrive. Between the two I feel a little mentally upside down.
Sometimes the reality of facing life alone as a parent, as a provider and as person gets a little scary. My therapist has been working with me on a skill called "catch it, check it, change it”; she pushes me to check my thoughts against the Bible and God’s word. Boy, has that been transformative. Did you know that you have 90 minutes to ride an emotional wave before it dissipates? I’ve been shocked by catching my thoughts… and then checking them against God’s word… and then changing them… fills those 90 minutes and I don’t get stuck ruminating and obsessing over a frustrating thought. You should try it!
Regardless, facing life alone is a reality, and catching the idea that it is scary is paramount. While I want to worry that I am the soul provider, the facts are that I am not. The Lord has been so good! He has made sure I have everything I need.
That’s enough to change my thinking!
With all that said though, I am, as it seems to be as of late, behind while I get some work in on those other projects. So, in regard to the podcast, the next release date will be June 2. I can’t wait to share the upcoming interview with you on anger with my friend Jo Peacocke. She tells her story and shares her heart on how anger ruled her life for a long time. You are not going to want to miss it.
Abide in Love
Finally, I’m dealing with something in a relationship that requires a lot of patience and a lot of love. A lot, a lot. The problem, I realized this morning as I was chatting with God, is that for a long, long time, I didn’t know what love was. I’m just now figuring it out, and honestly? It’s still confusing to me sometimes. This morning I prayed over and over, “Lord show me - remind me- what love is.”
Later this afternoon, as I clipped some roses, I chatted on the phone with a good friend. She said, “Amy I need to share a scripture with you….”
“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”
-Colossians 3: 12-14
As she was telling me, we both started crying. I was barely able to get out, “You have no idea… I was asking the Lord all day to remind me what love is. And here it is!!”…
compassion
kindness
humility
quiet strength
discipline.
Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you…
Excited, she reminded me that the scriptures before tell us what love is not.
“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”
-Colossians 3: 5-10
She and I found this so awesome that this morning I was praying for clarity, all while she was studying love! Friends, remember, if you have any questions in life, the Bible is living and breathing and it will answer them!! I promise you! Also…the Lord answers prayer, so don’t stop!
In closing, I wanted to show you the beautiful roses I was clipping while my friend and I were chatting. This is Emily Bronte. Isn’t she lovely? My sister in law bought it for me a couple years ago as a bare root…and this is the first year I’m actually getting beautiful flowers! {That will also preach! Don’t worry, I’ll wait for another day! ha}
Hugs, friends! xo
